Disclaimer
VoltGuide is a **free matching service** for homeowners. We help you understand common electrical jobs and connect with licensed, insured, bonded electricians, but **we do not perform electrical work** and we do not make the hiring decision for you.
What VoltGuide is — and is not
VoltGuide helps homeowners compare local electricians for common jobs like panel upgrades, rewiring, outlet work, EV charger installation, and emergency service. Our service is free to the homeowner.
We are not an electrician, electrical contractor, engineer, inspector, or permitting office. We do not do the work, design the work, pull permits, inspect the work, supervise job sites, or guarantee a contractor's performance.
Our role is simple: we help you request contact from electricians so you can compare quotes, check credentials, and choose who to hire. If you want to start that process, you can get matched.
Costs on this site are estimates, not quotes
Any prices, ranges, or timelines you see on VoltGuide are typical estimates only. They are not bids, contracts, or guarantees.
Real pricing depends on:
- the age and condition of the panel and wiring
- the job scope and materials
- access to the work area
- permit and inspection requirements
- local labor rates and your area
- whether repairs are found after work begins
For example, a service call often runs $120-$400. A basic outlet install or move may be $150-$350. A panel upgrade to 200 amps may be $1,800-$4,500. A whole-house rewire can be $8,000-$25,000+ depending on home size and condition. Those are honest ranges, not promises.
Before paying a deposit, get the price, scope, materials, permit responsibility, and warranty terms in writing. You can read more on our costs page.
Electrical safety comes first
Electrical work is dangerous and heavily regulated. Do not treat information on this site as instructions to do electrical work yourself. Hire a licensed electrician for diagnosis, repairs, and installation.
If you notice any of the following, stop using the affected circuit and call a licensed electrician now:
- burning smell
- smoke
- sparks
- repeated tripping
- hot outlets or switch plates
- buzzing from the panel
- shocks or tingling when touching switches or appliances
If there is smoke or fire, call 911 right away.
For general homeowner safety reminders, see electrical safety basics and our page on emergency electrical.
You must verify the electrician yourself
We work to connect homeowners with professionals, but you are responsible for checking whether a contractor is right for your job. Do not rely only on a profile, ad, or verbal promise.
Use this simple checklist:
1. Verify the license yourself with your state or local licensing authority. Here is a guide: how to check an electrician license.
2. Confirm the company is licensed, insured, and bonded for your area and job type.
3. Ask whether permits are needed and who will pull them. Follow local permit and code rules.
4. Compare more than one written estimate when the job is large.
5. Make sure the written scope matches what you asked for.
6. Keep control of the job: you choose who to hire, and you hold the final payment until the agreed work is complete.
Participating electricians pay VoltGuide a flat fee to receive opportunities. That does not change your right to compare options and walk away from any contractor you do not trust.
VoltGuide is free and can help you compare electricians, but we do not do electrical work or guarantee prices. Stay safe, hire a licensed, insured, bonded electrician, verify the license yourself, and get the job scope and price in writing before you pay.
